Bailey the Therapy Dog

Who’s that dog?

In the bustling hallways and classrooms of our school, there’s a furry friend who plays a unique and essential role in the lives of our students.  With a wagging tail and unconditional love, our four-legged friend offers much more than just companionship.  She is an invaluable resource for emotional well-being and academic success.

Meet Bailey, a three-year-old Golden Retriever and certified therapy dog under the guidance and handling of our art teacher Mrs. Bjornson.

When students walk into our school and see their furry friend, the worries and pressures of the day seem to melt away.  Bailey offers a safe and welcoming presence, making it easier for students to engage with peers and adults.  She plays a pivotal role in fostering a positive and inclusive school community.  Many students feel a sense of belonging when they interact with her.  Bailey acts as a social catalyst, bringing students together and breaking down barriers.  The interactions with Bailey encourage kindness, empathy, and patience among the students as they learn to respect the needs of the dog.  She also serves as a reward and motivator for students.  Bailey typically comes to school two to three days a week.  She makes her rounds visiting classrooms and offices throughout the school building.

Bailey is much more than a pet, she’s a dedicated member of our school community, supporting the emotional, social, and academic well-being of our students and staff.  If you’d like to follow Bailey’s interactions with our students, follow her on Instagram @thedaily.bailey.sfds

Oh and Bailey doesn’t require a paycheck, but treats are always welcomed:)
